Pre Trip – Engine Compartment

Slack Adjuster

A push rod (2) connects the brake chamber to the slack adjuster (1). You are going to look for any damaged or loose parts that might create a safety hazard, as well as describe how you would test for proper adjustment.

Tip: {SD} {MH}

“A push rod connects the brake chamber to the slack adjuster. I would inspect it for any Sign Of Damage or Missing Hardware.

To test for proper adjustment I would chock my wheels if the bus was not on level ground because the engine must be off and the parking brake disengaged. If the push rod moves more than one inch when pushing or pulling on it the brakes may need serviced.”
