Engine Start
- Safe start engine to inspect for Lighting Indicators.
- Inspect if ABS is functional
- Inspect if DEF/DPF indicator is working (if equipped)
- Prepare for brake inspection by starting the engine when all indicators go out
“After assuring the parking brake is set and the transmission is in neutral I am turning the key to the on position. I inspect that all of the indicators for various functions work at this time. A number of indicators for various lights come on at this time. Later I will inspect that they work when the corresponding light is turned on.
The bus will perform a number of system checks during startup. One of those is the ABS system. It appears to be functioning properly as the amber ABS light appeared on the dash and went out when the test was complete. The DEF (or DPF) light also went out after tests were complete.”
